Catching-up

So I've been listening to BBC and NPR a whole lot because of my job, and I feel a lot more educated about the world as a whole now. Before, I had my opinions based on deduction entirely. I rarely referred to the history I learned in school, and I got most of my ideas from trying to disagree with everyone I met. I have definitely come a long way since then, but I've only taken the proverbial first step only recently. Don't worry this all goes somewhere, because I feel pretty excited about all the drama in Africa and the Middle East. Instead of starting from the smallest detail out, I decided to look at it from the biggest detail in, and I've decided that we're going to see a lot of action in the near future on a global scale.

Naturally, I speak of the internet revolution. I remember as a child being told a that all the languages in the world were created when man tried to build a bridge between here and heaven. Being an atheist, I wasn't impressed, but looking at it now I feel as if the internet is that bridge. I see no reason why we should not govern ourselves in a proper democracy, over the internet. It would be nice to be able to shoot out an idea and see how well it gets voted, and maybe if its a really good one it might be put into law. Yet again I digress, but isn't that what happened in Egypt? One guy got mad, complained on twitter. A few read it, agreed, and formed a group on facebook. Anyone who disagreed wasn't hunted down and shot, no one cared if you would rather watch tv than risk your life protesting, because a lot of people agreed on something and did something about it.

But at the heart of it all, knowledge is the best weapon anyone can have. Education and keeping up to date with world events has helped me tremendously, but I hope to never stop learning. The next is planning, and I feel the people that are rioting right now don't all have an idea as to how exactly they are going to fix their own problems once they control the government. Which could lead to less positive leaders to lock down and oppress with unfair laws no one can repeal, but I have hope for them yet.

We can and should all take a look at the world from the 3rd point of view sometimes. We are all connected and depend on each other, that's why I respect people that share knowledge, money, and love, instead of hoarding it all for themselves.

  1. Well said! You should watch this:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SjimpQPQDuU

It's an interview of one of the guys who was behind the facebook group. He was kidnapped by the gov and held hostage, this interview takes place right when he gets let go.

You can see how obviously he cares for the people around him, he definitely shares your sentiment.
